101 Questions and Answers on the Saints
Whenever I teach RCIA or adult confirmation classes, the topic of the saints always raises a host of questions: “How does a person become a saint?”, “Why are certain saints patrons of different activities or groups of people?” and so on. For cradle Catholics, the situation is similar. Many of us have a fascination with the saints, and deep devotion to particular saintly individuals, but at the same time have many questions about matters ranging from the canonization process to the veneration of relics and the placement of saints on the liturgical calendar. For anyone who would like to learn more about the saints, a great place to start is 101 Questions and Answers on the Saints by George P. Evans. Fr. Evans, a priest of the Boston archdiocese, has written a very informative and highly interesting work which will appeal to a wide audience, from newcomers to Catholicism to seasoned Catholics who want a “refresher” on the place of the saints in the Church’s spiritual life. Easy to read but theologically rich, 101 Questions and Answers on the Saints is a great resource for anyone who loves the saints and aspires to sainthood. In other words – it should be a great read for any serious believer!
