Pope encourages priests to blog

We just came across an AP article that reported how Pope Benedict XVI is now encouraging priests to start blogging:

"just using e-mail or surfing the Web is often not enough: Priests should use cutting-edge technologies to express themselves and lead their communities, Benedict said in a message released by the Vatican."

This is a positive development for 21st century evangelization, which will continue to increase use of next-generation media to connect with the world.

Obviously a blog or other emerging social media wouldn't be every priest's cup of tea but used as a tool by those who can and would, a larger swath of the faithful can be reached and even encouraged to join parish communities in person.

The official communication from Pope Benedict XVI is contained in his message for the 44th World Communications Day: "The Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word".

Enjoy!
